This news report says that the Boeing 737 MAX is only weeks away from a recertification flight that would give it FAA approval to fly again. If that is the case, it’s probably only the start of the hard work for Boeing. Their reputation has been so badly damaged by this, it’s going to take a lot of work to regain the confidence of operators and passengers. EASA and other Airworthiness Authorities won’t simply fall into line behind the FAA like they did in the past.

From a maintenance perspective, the lull in business precipitated by the coronavirus could give MROs a chance to do the work necessary to bring the MAXs out of storage. But it’s a really uncertain situation that Boeing are going to have to navigate and it will be interesting if the new boss will do so more successfully than Dennis Muilenburg did.
